New Living Translation mark 6:4 says, “Then Jesus told them, “A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his relatives and his own family.”
Jesus was not honored in his own town because people could only see him as a Jewish carpenter and not as the messiah. This happens in churches all the time doesn’t it? It amazes me how a person can leave a church and go to another church and explode with success. All because the new church was able to see the potential & calling in the person’s life and not his/her past mistakes. Let this not be the case at our churches! I pray my church is a place that honors the future pastors, prophets, evangelists and teachers. I pray we do not see them as they were but rather who they are becoming.
I want my people to fulfill their life calling “because” of our ministry teams and not “in spite” of our ministry teams.
Here are 3 cultural things our team is focused on to make this happen:
- Believe in people no matter what
- Allow people to process
- Don’t ever talk bad about another individual…. period.
