Jesus said in Luke 16:15, “You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of others, but God knows your hearts…” King David said in Psalm 139:23-24, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
One of the most intimidating yet encouraging paradoxes I have come to realize in my life is that God knows my heart. God knows your heart as well. This means there is nothing we can do or think that God does not see or hear (scary!). At the same time, this also means that there is no part of our lives that God can not find us, embrace is, and change us into his image for His glory (exciting!). He wants to embrace us in our deepest darkest thoughts, attitudes, and actions, and truly transform us from the inside out. This means we do not have to run FROM God in moments of weakness, but rather run TO God. This truth has the potential to free us from a life of superficial hypocrisy and lead us to a life of real transformation. After all, isn’t that what we are after? We not only want God to save us, but transform us! Here is the crazy thing…. God wants to transform us too! He looked at the disciples and said in Matthew 4:19, “Come to me and I will make you fishers of men“. Do you see that? Jesus says, “I WILL MAKE YOU“. This is incredible! He will transform our brokenness into beauty and all we have to do is come to him!
I want to encourage you today to come to God with your deepest darkest self and allow Him to meet you where you are. You can’t tell Him anything He doesn’t already know and you can’t reveal to Him anything He hasn’t already seen. Don’t try to hide what can’t be hidden and don’t try to change the thing that only He can change… YOUR HEART.
